Chick-fil-A Opening Gives Disappointed Republicans Something to Celebrate

Now Mitt Romney supporters are just emotionally eating
What better place for beleaguered Mitt Romney fans and other gay-hating folks to wallow in their post-election sorrows than a brand spankin' new Chick-fil-A?

Dozens of chicken lovers (or gay marriage haters) gathered outside the new Walnut Creek chicken restaurant yesterday to celebrate the opening of the East Bay location.

Cut them some slack -- what else do they have to celebrate?

According to ABC news, chicken fans arrived as early as 5:30 a.m. and camped out in the drive through lane for a 24-hour marathon all in the name of free food. How American.

The first 100 people to claim a wristband and stay overnight at the chicken chain got coupons for 52 free meals.  "Are you kidding? I am a major raving fan. This makes 27 for me. I travel all over the country for Chick-fil-A," Monique Hampton, a hungry chicken sandwich fan, told ABC news.

But while fast foodies give themselves heartburn, others have plans of their own. There's still plenty of people out there who are piping mad at the restaurant after Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy gave plenty of people indigestion with his comments about how the fast-food chain really didn't believe in gay marriage, to put it nicely. After that, gays boycotted the restaurant, and Christians continued boycotting gays. In the end, gays stole the show when they appeared at Chick-fil-A restaurants across the country and smooched each other while heterosexuals snacked on their waffle fries. It was an unforgettable day for America.

In any event, protesters are planning to tell their side of the story this morning when the restaurant officially opens to the public; they want everyone to know that the chicken-slinging folks there have made monetary donations to homophobic groups.

So go ahead, disheartened conservatives stuff your face with chicken sandwiches, it won't stop gays from tying the knot in Maine or Maryland.

Gay-hating folks? Kill yourself.

Not every Republican or conservative minded person hates gays. You are just as bad as the people who are actually bigots.

Mitt was a terrible candidate and so was Obama. You are just too blinded by a two party system to see that. The only thing you vote on are social issues, idiot.

It is very silly to believe that every single person there has the same agenda. I have been to seven different chick fil a openings for one reason alone, free food. I am a college student that does not have enough money to splurge on fast food. So if i can camp out for one night and receive hundreds of dollars worth of free food, i will do it in a heart beat. And on top of that, i am taking money AWAY from the company. I have not spent a single cent at chick fil a and i have pulled over a thousand dollars from their pocket. It is always good to look at the factors that lead people to do something, not just what is in the news. Remember, only a sith deals in absolutes

I shop at target and I dislike gays. Doesn't matter to me I'm just buying what I need. What was funny though was how this article forgot to mention that the boycott gays demonstrated resulted in RECORD BREAKING PROFITS for Chik-FilA. Boycott more if you guys want, the company hears you loud and clear lol

SO let me get this straight: Because I went to the opening of the new Chick-fil-A, I'm now a "gay hating, beleaguered Romney supporter"??  What a very intelligent assumption and way to alienate the hundreds of people, like myself who went to the opening, but don't fit your ignorant description of them. The most ignorant, ironically hypocritical blog post Ive ever read on a supposedly credible news site.

@Agarcia38 Though their number of new, unique customers increased post gay  controversy, their profits actually declined a significant margin over the last quarter. Sorry, but you've been misinformed with half-truths.

@tina "Because I went to the opening of the new Chick-fil-A, I'm now a "gay hating, beleaguered Romney supporter"??"  In a word: YES.

@tina Short answer: pretty much yes. If you choose to give your money to someone who you know will use part of it to deny gay rights, then yes you are a gay hater. If you're a gay-hater, you almost certainly supported Rmoney. If you supported Rmoney and you're not feeling beleaguered right now, perhaps you need to know (spoiler alert) the election was two days ago and Rmoney got blown out big time.

@tina But how are you not?  You support gay rights, you just don't support gay rights in the name of something delicious?

@fkcarlson I am not a gay hater. I know many gay people and love them as anyone else. I did not vote for Romney and am certainly not beleaguered he lost.

I do believe that this is a free country and business owners have the right to do whatever they want with their money and have the political views they want and vote how they want and worship who they want. I am buying their sandwiches not their votes and social decisions, much like I don't choose to disassociate myself with friends/people who have different viewpoints than I, or will use my money, their capital, to express their political beliefs.

I'm sure if you researched the company's YOU give your money to (try Googling 'company political contributions' instead of only the ones unfairly exploited in the media bent on selling controversy to fools (such as in this article and ones like it--really how old is the Chick-fil-a media witchhunt thing?) you would have nowhere to shop.

@tina  @fkcarlson They are absolutely right, Tina. You are telling gay people everywhere, "F&*^ you, tasty chicken is more important to me than your rights." You are in denial.  This is even worse than the many people who voted for Romney and said, "I love gays, but......." (insert lame answer here)

@tina  actually, if you give them your money, you ARE buying their political views.  So, that argument fails.  @fkcarlson

@mrericsir  @tina So when you guys pay your taxes to America you're fully supporting the murder of innocent brown people in the guise of stopping terrorism so let's drone strike American citizens in Yemen or continue bombing Pakistan with 80% civilian casualties?

If you voted for Obama he said he's personally responsible for these kill lists.  So in essence you are killing innocent Pakistanis.  People can skew shit in any direction, so please just give people the respect they deserve if you desire to be sucha  progressive conscious consumer.

@tina  You don't have to google anything -- Chick-Fil-A is proud to support hatred an intolerance.  You know damn well where your money is going when you hand it over to them.

Stop looking for excuses: the fact is that you're more interesting in stuffing your face than supporting other people's rights.

@tina  @fkcarlson Actually, it's really, really not hard to do a little research on your favourite restaurants and companies. Most places I shop don't practically scream about how much they hate gay people like Chik-Fil-A does.
