Frederick Dozier Found Guilty of Violent Mission District Rapes
Inside the packed courtroom, 31-year-old Dozier, dressed in a red long-sleeve button-down shirt, stared straight ahead as the verdict was read aloud, and whispered to his attorney afterward.
District Attorney George Gascón praised both the victims for having the courage to come forward and face their attacker as well as the aggressive efforts on behalf of law enforcement.
"This is someone who does not belong on the streets," Gascon told a throng of reporters. "Frankly, he's an animal."
The disturbing crimes, which occurred in the 24th Street corridor, shocked and scared the community such that residents created the 24th Street Survivors Fund, raising more than $16,000 for the victims.
Dozier's DNA linked him to the three assaults which occurred between June and December 2011, according to court documents.
On June 17, 2011, Dozier attacked his first victim. She was near 24th Street and Van Ness Avenue at 2:50 a.m. when he grabbed her, muffled her screams with his hands, and dragged her to a nearby driveway where he raped and robbed her.
On Nov. 18, at about 4 a.m., Dozier grabbed and choked his second victim, before punching her in the face when she refused to cooperate. After raping her, he twisted her neck and hit her with a blunt object before robbing her and running away, according to prosecutors.
On Dec. 8, 2011, Dozier assaulted his last victim near 24th and Fair Oaks Streets at 6:20 a.m. He ordered her not to scream and choked her until she was unconscious. The victim woke up and found Dozier raping her. When he was done he punched her in the face, slammed her face into the concrete sidewalk, robbed her, and ran away, prosecutors said.
Police say Dozier admitted to all three rapes. He is scheduled to be sentenced Friday Dec. 14 at 1:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the community is still accepting donations for the victims. Anyone wishing to donate can contact the Fair Oaks Community Coalition or make their contributions directly to the following:
