Here's what happened:
The confrontation was broken up by bystanders, and the two suspects left the group. However, they returned a few minutes later -- and this time Viana was allegedly holding a knife.
Sgt. Michael Andraychak says Viana tried to stab two people, including the victim's girlfriend, before slashing the victim in the chest. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but is now expected to survive, police said.
After the stabbing, the duo ran off, but not before Arguelles allegedly punched one other person in the group. Witnesses followed the two men and called police, who caught up with the suspects on Blanken Street where they were arrested.
Police would not release the suspects booking photos at this time.
