City Attorney to Sue "World Series Hooligans" Who Trashed S.F.

For those of you who are miffed, pissed, hurt, or whatever adjective aptly describes how you feel about the destruction that descended on San Francisco after the Giants won the World Series on Sunday, well, you are about to get some relief.

Financial relief, that is.

The City Attorney has said he will work aggressively to sue the "hooligans" who trashed San Francisco, including the person who torched a $700,000 Muni bus, totaling the newly rehabilitated coach.

The City Charter says that the City Attorney has the power to file lawsuits on behalf of the hard-working taxpayers (that's you) whenever a person, or in this case lots of people, damages city property to this extent.

"Vandals who mar San Franciscans' celebration of the Giants' World Series win bring disgrace on our city and deserve the harshest penalties the law allows," City Attorney Dennis Herrera says in a statement. "My office already works hard to collect on civil judgments owed to taxpayers. But I intend to make it a top priority to pursue litigation and maximize recovery for the kind of hooliganism we witnessed Sunday night."

Consider this a warning for tomorrow when the Giants parade is expected to draw more than 1 million people to the heart of downtown and Civic Center. Herrera says he will file claims against anyone at the parade who is busted breaking, smashing, painting, or burning city property.

Herrera isn't messing around either. He says he will go after your wages, bank accounts, and other assets, as well as revoke your driver's license if you destroy anything belonging to the city.

In other words, grow up.
