Update (12:22 p.m.): Good news. Police have sent out a release informing us that the "priceless cello has been recovered." However, the suspects are still on the loose. Read the suspect description at the bottom of this story.

Original story (7:35 a.m.):Travis Young, the father of a truly skilled music student, posted a message on Reddit this week, asking everyone to please check out these surveillance images and help find his son's kick-ass cello, which was supposedly snatched from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music on Sunday afternoon.

Here's his plea for help:
Hey Reddit, my son's very expensive cello was stolen from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music yesterday. Here are the surveillance pics from security that show a young couple making-off with my son's primary instrument. FWIW, this instrument is one of the most expensive things I have ever owned. It was stolen around 4:05 PM on Sunday, September 16th, 2012. These people are nonchalantly making-off with a full-size cello that was purchased when my son graduated from a smaller cello when he was 12. We've owned it for 11 years. He's in the collegiate division at the San Francisco Conservatory and it is not only the vehicle for his ability to obtain a classical music degree, but is also his sole source of income, as he uses it in performances and recordings.

The cello is an '87 Bubenreuth from the German city of the same name. It has distinguished scratches "underneath his bow hand caused from playing many hours a day for years." You can find more pictures of the cherished instrument here. And here's the full surveillance video showing the alleged thieves.

Young fully intends to get that cello back; he's contacted police and is planning a media blitz today. So if you come across this fine-looking instrument, contact Travis Young via Reddit or call SFPD, because you don't want to miss hearing that kid rock out at a BART station.

Update (12:22 p.m.): Just before midnight last night, a security officer spotted the cello leaning up against the door of the War Memorial Opera House on Van Ness Avenue. After seeing news reports about the missing instrument this morning, the security guard notified police.

The first suspect is described as a white male between 25 and 30 years old, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing 180 pounds, with dirty blond/brown hair. The second suspect is described as a white female approximately 5-foot-7, with a thin build, possibly weighing 120 pounds. She has black hair and is between 25 and 30 years old, according to police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Inspector Brian Danker of the Northern
Station Special Investigation Team at 614-3463, the Anonymous Tip Line at 575-4444, or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the message with "SFPD."
