Medical Marijuana Researchers to Present Findings at UCSF

The myth that medical cannabis is a myth has been fairly exploded by now -- at least according to, you know, science and healthcare professionals, who have produced data that pot shrinks tumors, soothes pain, and otherwise aids human beings for decades.

Anyone still on the fence -- and especially anyone still on the fence in the medical or healthcare fields -- ought to sit down and listen to UC San Francisco professor Donald Abrams talk about how marijuana has saved lives.

And looky here, they can do so next month.

Top researchers, practioners, and medical professionals will talk about what marijuana does to the mind and lungs as well as tumors at UCSF's Laurel Heights campus on Oct. 24 -- and they want you to be there. Especially if you're a doubter.

Participants will learn about the endocannabinoid system present in every single human body, and how available cannabinoids -- like those in smoked marijuana -- interact with said system.

Doctors and researchers from the Consortium for the Investigation of Cannabinoids and the Society of Cannabis Clinicians will provide a host of information. Here's a quick breakdown of the presenters and their findings.

• Marijuana Use and Medical Outcomes by Stephen Sidney, MD, MPH;

• Pulmonary Effects of Cannabis: COPD, Cancer, and Clinical Considerations by Donald Tashkin, MD;

• Therapeutic effects of Cannabis: Cancer and Pain Management: Clinical Trials, Vaporization and Clinical Pearls by Donald Abrams, MD;

• Cannabis in Primary Care: Issues for the Practicing Physician: IBD, Patient screening and monitoring, Clinical Pearls by Jeffrey Hergenrather, MD;

• Cannabis: A Nursing Perspective by MaryLynn Mathre, RN;

• Conclusion and moderated discussion by Mark Ware, MD.

The whole shebang is slated to run three hours. Not bad for a recap of decades of cutting-edge and still-controversial work.
