Hammered on the job
And you thought you worked in a hostile environment.

A 47-year-old man was hammered -- literally -- by his co-worker yesterday morning as the two crossed paths unexpectedly in the Mission Bay neighborhood.

According to police, the victim was on the 800 block of Seventh Street near a construction site when he walked past his co-worker, who whacked him in the back of the head with a hammer.
According to Officer Carlos Manfredi, the two construction workers had gotten into a verbal fight seven months ago when they were working at a different construction job. The victim believed the two had resolved their issues, but clearly they hadn't -- and it's fair to say they still haven't.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries; however, he is conscious and breathing. The suspect, only described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, ran away from the scene before police got there, and is still at large.

"We don't have him in custody, but we do have information about who he is, and so it's a matter of time before we capture him," Manfredi told us.
