Medical authorities have identified the man who was shot to death on Sunday afternoon in the city's Mission District as 20-year-old Jesus Solis.

Tipsters alerted media outlets about the 4 p.m. shooting on Treat Street, claiming Solis, whose hometown is not known, had been killed execution-style.

However, police have not been able to confirm that was the case, not could they provide any more details about the circumstances of his death.

Officer Albie Esparza tells us that investigators are looking into whether the shooting was gang-related. It was the 50th homicide this year. Last year at this time, San Francisco had a total of 37 homicides, police say.

Anyone with information on this murder is asked to contact the Homicide Detail at 553-1145, or contact the anonymous tip line at 575-4444. You can also Text-a-Tip to TIP411.

As someone who knew Jesus, I do not appreciate the publication of this photo of his dead body. If it were anyone other than an urban youth, I seriously doubt that that photo would have been run. It's very insensitive. Please consider taking this down. Thank you.
