Supervisor Scott Wiener Says Drawing Attention to Your Cock in Public Is Obnoxious

Says public erections are not really political
Last week, SF Weekly told readers about how nudists in the Castro were starting to feel singled out because of their cock rings. They accused police of conducting "cock ring patrols" threatening to arrest nudists who were caught wearing the sex paraphernalia in public.

Cops deny they've been on penis patrol, though if they haven't been inspecting naked penises, they might be soon. Supervisor Scott Wiener, who has already explained his discomfort with naked people, told the Bay Area Reporter that he's considering legislation that would ban all public nudity.

The District 8 supervisor, who represents the penis-flapping Castro, says people aren't just uncomfortable with this lewd look, they're "absolutely repulsed by it." Or at least people who run in Wiener's circle.

He astutely noted that the whole purpose of a cock ring is to 1. maintain an erection, or 2. draw attention to the cock -- both of which are "obnoxious" and  "irresponsible," as long as you are in public.
So what?
He's worried that, with the warm weather and all, more men are going to want to strip their pants off and slip on a cock ring before heading to Hot Cookie in the Castro.

Naturally, nudists disagree, arguing that cock rings are no different than any other ornament you put on your body: a headband or earrings perhaps.

"I think people in the city are tired of this being an issue and are tired of seeing the city wasting resources on something that is not really a problem," Local nudist Mitch Hightower told BAR. "Most people I know who like to be naked in the plaza want nothing to do with the police. They want to be naked and left alone."

Don't we all?

Wiener is turning into a huge disappointment. His voting record is so conservative that I think of him now as the new Diane Feinstein - a Democrat in name only. He should stop making controversies where they don't really exist just so he can erode our personal freedoms in order promote his political career.

Well...maybe should you ask the 99.99% just in case, rather than just assume they don't.

I regularly walk through the Castro, and specifically pass the plaza where people lounge, on different days and different times, day and night.  I rarely see the police period, and I have certainly never seen them, or anyone for that matter, bother any of the naked individuals.

I don't think most San Franciscans object to someone simply being nude, but there is a huge difference between being a nudist and being an exhibitionist.

A nudist enjoys being free of clothes, but he or she is not interested in sexualizing his or her nudity and reserves sexual activity for his or her intimate partner(s).  There is no state law against simply being nude in public (some municipalities have ordinances against it, but SF is not one of them); however, there are various laws against sexual acts in public.

If you just want to sit nude and sun, I don't care, and I don't think 99.99% of the local people care (though you should cover your chair/bench, which I think most nudists thoughtfully do).  But, if you want to masturbate or engage in other sexual activities to try to draw passerbys into your sex life, then you need to stop and take that sexual activity into a private space to enjoy with a consenting adult partner.

rster why can't you just keep in your pants.  They Castro is not a no go area for anyone, tell your inner teen to get some respect for others!

I'll say it again...Not all us gays want to see other gay guys junk all the time.  Have some decency and think about others sometime and not your self inflated egotistic self entitlement.  Seeing guys, naked with a cock ring, is forcing someone to witness your sexual fetish.  THAT is abusive and quite frankly disgusting. Be nekkid in your own home...but don't force it on those of us who don't want to see it if we're not wanting too! Jeez you guys make me ashamed to be gay.

Speak for yourself Scott Wiener ( what a name.., lol ), maybe you need to be supervisor of a different area. If you afraid or uncomfortable with the cock then stay out of the Castro !

OK, how does a guy named Wiener figure he can tell people to keep wieners hidden? Does he not understand irony?

Rep. Anthony Wiener might not agree. He likes to send piccies of his peenie over the internets.

I wonder if they're related and, if so, how much fun is Christmas with the family?

Funny, I thought this was started as a trend by the GOP because they seem to attract attention by showing their penises.

I've asked plenty of people, and no one seems to care, PROVIDED that nude people show consideration and behave appropriately.  I feel confident in assuming this attitude applies to most local residents.

Also, if you had bothered to read my post completely, then you would know that I and most people DO object to individuals who sexualize nudity (which is what Supervisor Weiner is also concerned about).  It is never appropriate for individuals to draw unwilling passerbys into their sex life.

There is no law against simply being naked in public, but there are laws against engaging in sexual activity or creating a public health hazard.  The "nude Castro" guys have been around for a long time, and I think most people would tolerate them if they simply kept things sanitary and also kept their behavior clean. Personally, I am not that glad to see a sad, naked old guy, but I could live with it if such an individual were well-behaved and covered his seat.  (Sadly, it is never the fit and attractive people who take their clothes off).  I think that is how most people feel.
