A Lafayette family and community continue their search for Brett Olson after he disappeared while tubing down the Sacramento River over Labor Day weekend.

Brett Olson, 20, a junior at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, was last seen around 1 p.m. Sunday when he arrived at Beer Can Beach along the Sacramento River, south of Chico State. He wanted to spend the day with chums floating down the river -- a tradition for thousands that marks the beginning of the school year.

Olson's parents and friends are doing all they can to find Brett, including handing out and posting flying across the state.

They created this Facebook page with some 76,000 members -- and counting.

Thousands have posted photos and videos of the Cal Poly student, along with updates and call for action to help the Olson family find Brett.

Today at 1:30 p.m., volunteers combed the area around 12th and Hazel streets in Chico, and citizens informed homeowners of the situation, asking them to spread the word. Volunteers have also sifted through and along the Sacramento River looking for any trace of Olson.

Brett's father, Michael Olson, remained optimistic this morning, as he posted on the page, "My wife and I continue to be amazed and buoyed by your enormous support. Brett will be too when we all find him!"

Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram have also been used to spread the word to #FindBrettOlson.

The might of the tweet.

An aerial search was reportedly conducted using heat-sensing technology, and California State Parks is combing the terrain for Olson. Detectives and dogs have also been sent out in search of Brett.

The brown-haired, hazel-eyed, 6-foot-1 student was last seen wearing purple and white board shorts and a white tank with bold and colorful letters.

The Olson family has a Wells Fargo fund where they are accepting donations. If you want to make a donation, send a check with "deposit only" on the back, made out to any Wells Fargo Bank. The check should be written to "The Olson Family Fund."
