5 Reasons Californians Are Getting Fatter

Last year, we were pretty stoked to learn that California was among the skinniest states in the country. But not for long. According to a new study released this week, nearly half of Golden State denizens will be obese by 2030.

Sad news like this kinda makes you want to emotionally eat, huh?

Still, we couldn't really get our heads around the notion that a good-looking state chock full of superficial beach babes would let themselves go one slice of pizza at time. Maybe this has something to do with it:

"Fine food," such as pork belly, gourmet burgers, bacon-infused this 'n that, sauced ____ are just as fattening as the often-cited fast foods. They are promoted and worshipped to the point that I think people think these are good for you. And young people in SF eat out all the time. For food to be delicious it usually requires the generous addition of some form of fat--be it oil or butter. People are "being fed" a line about the goodness of all this. And shall we talk about portion size?

Food trucks arnt just a So Cal thing. Here in San Fran there's been a huge push to get more trucks and making it easier to get them running going on for a bit. Even to the point of setting up communal kitchens for people who want to start their own food truck. And all that movie Food Inc did was make me want to get fast food drive through. =/

I'm going to blame my future ballooning up on the fact that The Mill with Josey Baker bread will be up and running soon not 100 steps from my apartment and that Chili Pies makes delicious pies that I only eat 1 a month but crave weekly.
