See's Candies Breaks World Record With Freakish 7,000-Pound Lollipop
| Jessica Christian |
It took 14.5 hours to make. The process started at 4 a.m. and was completed by 6:30 p.m. on the same day. That's a lot of overtime, and exactly 2,947 pounds of sugar.
In the end, the lollipop turned came out to 4 feet, 8.75 inches in length, 3 feet, 6 inches in width, and 5 feet, 11 inches in height. The stick is 11 feet, 10 inches tall, but its weight didn't count toward the official record.
If you missed the chance to see this ginormous sucker, there's still a few more opportunities for you to look, but not lick.
Here's the lollipop's itinerary, in case you are interested:
- Friday, Aug. 3: From 2 to 4 p.m., stop by the See's shop located at 210 El Camino Real in South San Francisco for free gourmet lollipops.
- Friday, Aug. 10: The world's largest sucker will again be on display at Candlestick Park during the San Francisco 49ers preseason game. Again, free lollipops.
- Sunday, Aug. 12: The San Francisco 49ers will host the team's second annual "Fan Fest" event presented at Candlestick Park, giving fans the chance to attend a 49ers practice. The world's largest lollipop will be on display at this event, which will have even more free lollipops.
