San Francisco police used DNA evidence to track down one the men they say kidnapped an elderly woman during a home invasion robbery in the Portola neighborhood.

On May 27, at about 11:15 a.m., the 79-year-old victim was inside her home on the 200 block of Gaven Street when she heard a knock at the front door. When she opened the door, two men pushed passed her and went inside her home, police said.

One of the robber threw her to the ground and demanded her money. A third suspect joined the other two and forced the woman to her bedroom, said Officer Carlos Manfredi.
As two suspects ransacked her room, the third man grabbed the woman by the throat and held her still. He ripped the gold chains from her neck.

After going through her room, the suspects forced the victim to her garage where they began to rummage through cabinets. At that time, the victim called out for help, and the three men ran off.

Officers from the Crime Scene Investigation Unit processed the house and collected DNA evidence. A Combined DNA Index System hit came back, positively identifying 22-year-old Sandie Harden of San Francisco as one of the suspects.

He was arrested and charged with robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping, and burglary.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Bayview Station Investigation Team at 671-2300.
