Ross Mirkarimi: Alleged Ex-Girlfriend Makes Domestic Violence Claim at Today's Hearing

Taking a turn for the (even more) bizarre...
Mirkarimi lawyer: "She's psycho."

Update: Accuser changes her tune; see end.

The public comment session at today's Ross Mirkarimi Ethics Commission hearing is still ongoing. Speakers are lined up in a queue snaking through the corridors of City Hall; supporters of the sheriff-in-limbo -- including his mother -- have heavily outweighed those who'd want him stripped of his position.

But one speaker said she not only wants Mirkarimi out of office, but also wants him out of her gym. A blonde woman who introduced herself as Jocelyn claimed she is an ex-girlfriend of the former supervisor and suspended sheriff, and further alleged he physically abused her on multiple occasions. The woman claimed Mirkarimi "threw a just-cooked dinner on the floor," "pulled my chair out from under me," and, later, "physically pushed me out of bed onto the floor, and called me a psycho." Glancing at Mirkarimi, she said "Ross, I don't feel safe around you. We go to the same gym and I feel scared."

A later speaker supporting Mirkarimi claimed the alleged ex was a fabulist, a charge strongly reiterated by Mirkarimi attorney Shepard Kopp.

Why, Ross wouldn't even harm a fly...
Kopp tersely responded to a text asking if Mirkarimi knew the woman and if her claims were true: "No and no. She's psycho."

Asked further who this woman was and what's going on here, Kopp replied "No idea."

When the long list of speakers says its piece -- or, if you're Walter Paulson, sing your piece -- the Ethics Commission will adjourn for lunch. It will then digest the months of evidence, testimony, posturing, lawyering, and, apparently, excoriation from the public, before recommending to the Board of Supervisors whether to give Mirkarimi the thumbs-up or thumbs-down.

Update (2:55 p.m.):
SF Weekly's Suzanne Stathatos says "Jocelyn" later "admitted" to interviewers that she wasn't the former girlfriend of Ross Mirkarimi. Whether they share the same gym or what would lead her to state, during public comment at a government hearing, that she had an abusive relationship with him remains unknown. Mirkarimi responded to SF Weekly's earlier message, confirming he does not know the woman.

@Joe Eskenazi. (Eske who?) This is irresponsible journalism, you write a story potentially damaging to the sheriff including the photo of some psycho looking guy with a caption saying: "Why, Ross wouldn't even harm a fly" to finally say that the woman in question was simply lying. Thanks but no thanks SF Weekly.
