Officer Carlos Manfredi tells us that cops heard shots fired about 12:32 p.m. in the area of Steiner and Eddy streets. They "saturated the area" until they found the two victims: a male and a female, both with gunshot wounds to their lower extremities, Manfredi said.
The victims were taken to San Francisco General Hospital and are expected to survive.
The gang task force unit went to the scene, however, it is still too early to know for sure whether today's shooting is gang related, Manfredi says.
It's the fourth day in a row the city has been plagued by gun violence. Four people have been killed this week, two after a brawl broke out on Monday in broad daylight near the Sunnydale Housing Projects.
Later that night, a group was fired at in a drive-by shooting, just two blocks from the double homicide. Nobody was injured. On Sunday, 18-year-old Elijah Hopkins was found shot to death behind a row of homes in Diamond Heights, and on Tuesday, another shooting happened in Portola, killing 26-year-old Edmundo Sandoval and injuring one other man.
Anyone with information about the homicides is encouraged to call the SFPD's anonymous tip line at 575-4444, or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
