Armed Robbery: Cell Phone Snatchers Strike Again
Looks like San Francisco cops haven't yet quite mastered how to stop cell phone thieves in the city.
Why can't we all just get along?
Last night in Bayview-Hunter's Point, a bandit robbed a female pedestrian, making off with her cell phone and debit card, according to a police report.
About 10:30 p.m. at the corner of Silver Avenue and Elmira Street, the suspect grabbed the victim's hand, told her to hand over the goods, and flashed his handgun at her to show he meant business.
The incident demonstrates two of the city's pertinent problems: the recent spike in gun violence and cell phone snatchers on the loose.
This is the fourth cell phone theft in the span of two weeks. Two robberies occurred at Divisadero and Eddy on July 28 and Aug. 2; just three days later, another occurred at Divisadero and Geary Boulevard.
Police have described cell phone robberies as particularly "epidemic right now," Capt. Greg Corrales told SF Weekly. SFPD plans to increase police presence in certain areas to grapple with these tech crimes.
