Good morning!
Update (8:17 a.m.) Officer Gordon Shyy tells us that the hazardous items were capped pipes and they were deemed to be harmless. So we can all carry on about our day.

(Original story 7:29 a.m.)
About 75 residents were awoken from their slumber early this morning and forced to evacuate when police found suspicious items inside their apartment building.

Just after midnight, police were called to the 600 block of Jones Street where a preliminary investigation turned up possible hazardous items, said Sgt. Michael Andraychak.

The bomb squad was called in to assess the situation; the building was evacuated as a precaution, and streets were blocked off.

The following streets were closed as of midnight:

Jones Street from Post Street to Geary Boulevard;

Geary Boulevard from Taylor Street to Jones Street.

Police have no further updates at this time. We will update you when we get more information.
