San Francisco Man Clobbered With Baseball Bat for No Apparent Reason

Categories: Crime
A 22-year-old man is clinging to life today after he was jumped by six men and attacked with a baseball bat near Lake Merced, according to police.

At about 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, the victim was walking his cousin back to a car parked on the 200 block of Skyline Boulevard when six men surrounded him. One of the men started yelling at him as all the suspects drew closer.

"The next thing you know he was struck hard in the back of the head with what appears to be a baseball bat," Officer Carlos Manfredi tells us.

After the beating, a witness saw the suspects flee on foot; however, police were not able to provide a description of the bat-wielding men. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with a life-threatening head injury.

Manfredi says the victim didn't appear to know the suspects, and that it seemed to be a random attack. "They had nothing in common with these guys at all -- they were just outside at the time he was walking his cousin to the car," Manfredi says.
