No wonder taxi drivers are so pissed off
Police are investigating a violent robbery that occurred in the city's Sunset District early this morning that landed a local cabbie in the hospital.

Officer Carlos Manfredi didn't have much information at this time, but says that about 5:30 a.m. a man pulled a gun on a taxi driver near Fourth Avenue and Irving. The suspected robbed and assaulted the driver before fleeing the scene, police said.

No word on what the suspect took from the cab driver.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, police closed off the surrounding area to cars for 45 minutes while investigators combed through the scene.

There have been no arrests as of yet, and police have no further description of the robber.

Anyone with info is asked to contact the SFPD using the anonymous tip line, 575-4444, or Text-a-Tip to TIP411, and begin the message with "SFPD."

A taxi in the Sunset?! Stop the presses! (Can we even say that anymore?) Taxis getting robbed is all the more reason that more of them should accept credit cards. Oh yeah, we all paid for installation of credit card machines in the form of a higher base fare, but how many functioning card readers have you seen in cabs? Hrmm? Thought not. Same as before the fare increase. Dunno who's the bigger crook in this situation.
