A temperamental father proved himself a bad role model when he smacked an 82-year-old woman at Stow Lake in front of his kid, after she allegedly scolded the youngster for pestering the geese on Friday.

Officer Gordon Shyy tells us that the woman was walking the lake with her husband when she spotted the juvenile bothering the birds. She immediately approached him, and gave the mischievous youngster a piece of her mind. The kid 's father saw this, and didn't like the idea of someone else reprimanding his child.

So he did what any bad father would do: He hit the woman. She fell to the ground and hit her head, police said.

Shyy says the woman was bleeding from her head and she had other abrasions. The suspect must have felt bad, because he picked her up and helped her husband take her to their car. The dad and the victim parted ways with no more trouble between them.

But later that night, the injured woman started feeling ill and checked herself into St. Mary's Hospital. Staff discovered she had a life-threatening head injury, and called police to report the battery.

As of today, the woman, who has not been identified, is doing a bit better, but is still in the intensive care unit with a critical head injury. Police are hoping to track down the man who hit her.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to call the anonymous tip line at 575-4444, or Text-A-Tip at TIP411 and include SFPD in the subject line of the text message.
