S.F. Cabbie on the Lam After Allegedly Robbing Passenger at Knifepoint
|You know how the movie ends|
The 30-year-old passenger told police that on Saturday about 12:25 a.m., he hailed a taxi and asked the driver to take him to Octavia and Hayes streets. While en route, passenger and cabbie got into an argument over the price of the trip.
After it became clear they weren't going to agree, the cab driver pulled out a knife and demanded the passenger's cellphone and debit card, police said. The victim gave it to him and he got out of the cab near Octavia and Hayes.
The victim called police, who are now investigating whether the suspect was impersonating a cabbie, or if he was actually a licensed taxi driver, said Officer Gordon Shyy.
"It was just described as a yellow cab," he said.
Anyone with information about the robbery is encouraged to call the police department's anonymous tip line at 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
