Likes gay marriage, hates fried chicken

Update (2:21 p.m.): On a side note, the media are buzzing with reports that Donald A. Perry, the public relations flack for Chick-fil-A, died this morning from an apparent heart attack.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee has finally admitted he wants nothing to do with the bible-thumbing Chick-fil-A -- and not just because the food could give him really bad heartburn.

The mayor on Thursday night logged onto Twitter and scolded the fast-food restaurant for its anti-gay positions that have made headlines faster than the restaurant can cook up a chicken.

Here's what Lee tweeted last night: "Very disappointed #ChickFilA doesn't share San Francisco's values & strong commitment to equality for everyone."

He then issued this stern warning:

This is the first time San Francisco has publicly said anything on the Chick-fil-A controversy, which began when the company's president, Dan Cathy, admitted his Atlanta-based chicken chain operated on so-called biblical values and opposed same-sex marriage.

His comments have not digested easily with the public; Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said he no longer wanted Chick-fil-A in his city, and the Muppets (owned by Disney) backed out of a partnership with the chain to provide kids' meal toys, which, as we have all read, became a public relations nightmare for the already troubled chain.

Last week, Chick-fil-A issued a statement saying it would "leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena." It then claimed the company will "treat every person with honor, dignity and respect -- regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender."

No doubt this issue will cook up more controversy.

If they have no right to express their values, soon you won't either. BTW, do you actually know what Cathy said? You might want to look up the actual quote. And, while you're at it, you might also want to look up the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. Something about government not being able to control your speech or religion, something like that. Actually, something both Tea Party types and ACLU types should really agree on.

Tell me, why is it discrimination when a black business is blocked by government, but when a Christian based one is blocked, it's "progressive?" And why is is only the right are called haters, when I see a whole lot of hate being spread by the left? A gay rights supporter discussing butt-hurt, that's funny. In other news, several politicians are after Barney Frank's seat. Well, office, anyway, maybe not his seat exactly.

Politics aside, how good is Chik Fil A? I've yet to try one as there are non in the vicinity, and when I've seen one in an airport or on the road, I wasn't hungry and didn't go. Is it really any better than KFC or Pollo Campero or Church's or any one of another chicken places?

This guy would get run over in a lawsuit if he attempted to do anything to prevent them from opening in SF. That's why the others who came out against them earlier are already backing down - because they shot their fat mouths off and finally their legal department got to them to let them know they didn't stand a chance.

@iaresorrys they'd have a hard time opening because the neighbors would scream bloody murder. this is a town where only one person can scream and yell and block a business and now we can't have a lot of restaurants the rest of the world enjoys. No Wendys. No Chilis. No Sonic. No Chic Fil A and the list goes on....the mayor and the supes don't need to pass a law they can let the NIMBYs do the dirty work. They almost closed a Jack in the Box for being open "too late."

What does one expect from our corrupt Red Chinese Mayor? He has brought his Maoist political views to San Francisco along with his Chinese corruption and ethnic bloc voting. Someone should mention to him that the First Amendment to the American Constitution protects freedom of speech. Perhaps he would be happier as the mayor of Shanghai. Then he can dictate.

More tolerance from the Left, where you can be any color you want as long as your IDEAS are all uniform. I fled San Francisco in 1993, and never regretted it. It is a beautiful area, filled with America hating morons.

@Snaps Good, enjoy it. I'm enjoying my huge, low cost house, the low cost energy, and the huge gain in freedom I experienced. BTW, Lexington has a higher percentage of LGBT than The City. We actually have diversity out here, you know, and tolerance for each other's views. Like California did back in the sixties. As far as the bad rubbish-that's SO hurtful. And it expresses the tolerance I know you have-none.
