Protesters Plan to Shut Down Muni Service on Monday

Muni officials are scrambling to prepare for a planned protest in the city's Bayview neighborhood next week that's sure to screw up your commute come Monday.

The Examiner brings us the bad news this morning, explaining that demonstrators are calling on all Muni lines to be shut down -- and they claim to have plenty of good reasons for it, including the Police Department's racial discrimination policies and Muni's ongoing attack on organized labor.

Even more compelling, they say, is Monday marks the 1-year anniversary of the shooting death of Kenneth Harding, the 19-year-old man who was chased down by police and shot to death after he attempted to dodge paying his Muni fare in the Bayview.

Demonstrators have targeted Third Street and Palou Avenue as the meeting spot for the protest, but not time has been set. The T-Third Street light rail line and the 54-Felton, 44-O'Shaughnessy, 24-Divisadero, and 23-Monterey bus lines all pass through that particular intersection, the Ex reports.

A random group called the Humanists for Revolutionary Socialism, is backing Monday's protest, dubbed "Kenneth Harding Jr. Transit Shut Down Day" and blames Muni's policies for Harding's death.

"Kenneth was killed by the S.F. police to protect Muni bosses' 'savings' on the backs of the workers," the group says on its website. "This greed takes the form of attacks on the Muni workers and compromising safety which endangers Muni riders as well as the union drivers."

SF Weekly contacted Muni to find out what the rest of us are supposed to do come Monday, if and when the trains are disrupted. She didn't say much other than they are aware of this protest and will take it into consideration, whatever that means. However, Ron Austin, spokesman for the transit union, tells the Examiner that we need not worry too much.

"When the sun rises on Monday, we'll be out there working," he said.

Of course, all that means is they will still get their paycheck.

The guy shot and killed  a pregnant woman in Seattle, and you admit you think he is a "d-bag pimp," so you are not coming off as particularly admirable pushing a protest in his honor. If you want to protest innocent individuals killed by the police, then by all means do so, but do not insult the memory of this jerk's innocent murder victim by holding a protest in his name.  Or, here's a hot idea--how about going out and holding a protest in HER name and in the name of all the other thousands of innocent women murdered every year? Are YOU paying attention to the world around you?  Have you ever stood up for anything besides some tired morally bankrupt political agenda?

The embedded "Harding" video is awesome.  You get to watch the piece of shit (Harding) bleed out on the pavement while he struggles to get up. HAHAHA!!!

I don't understand as to why people are protesting for Harding. First, Harding tried to dodge a$2 fair on Muni and second, he had a weapon on him so the the police had every to chase after him. If a person is carrying a gun expect to chased and possibly get shot by the police. His mother needs to stop making excuses for his son.

Shut down Muni for what...?  What's the REAL cause or purpose.  If it's for Kenneth Harding, let's take look at what is known.  Mr. Harding was convicted in Washington State attempting to pimp out a 13 year old girl.  That's right, 13 years old.  So, fast forward to Mr. Harding being in San Francisco.  Mr. Harding is now a parolee, a convicted felon and it's illegal in the State of California and most other states in the Union, for a parolee to be in possession of a firearm.  So, now Mr. Harding is trying to skip a stupid $2 Muni fare an he's carrying a gun.  No wonder he ran from the cops.  He's a convicted felon and he's about to go back to prison for being a parolee in possession of a firearm.  And he was wanted by Seattle as a "person of interest" in the murder of a pregnant teenager and her baby. And then there's Mr. Harding's older brother, Ondrell Harding, who was arrested in Seattle for murder, the beating death of a 50 year old male. Sounds like someone worthy of inconveniencing everyone else in SF.

He shot himself in the head. He was not shot by the police.

"thousands"  I doubt there are a 1000 in a year, and of those one wonders how many you are upset about?   How many of them are your Lovelle Mixon types? Where do you get thousands? Don't get me wrong, most cops are a-holes, but your statistics are very strange.
