Hey Drunks, Here's Your Drinking and Driving Cheat Sheet for the Weekend
| You know who you are |
On Saturday at 8:30 p.m., cops will stage a DUI checkpoint on the corner of Ninth Avenue and Geary Boulevard, checking cars for wasted drivers through the wee hours of the morning.
So if you do plan to hit the bottle hard this weekend, here's some sound advise from Capt. Denis O'Leary:
"We're a very transit-friendly city, so it's easy to hop a cable car, hail a cab, or get on a bus or trolley after drinking rather than drive drunk or get into a car with a person who has been drinking," O'Leary says.
If you had plans to get out of town for the weekend, don't think you can avoid the cops wherever you are going. The Saturday night crackdown on drunks is happening in 40 other counties across the state.
This sobriety check is just a dry run for what's to come next month. Starting Aug. 17, police will be out in force as part of a statewide campaign to arrest drunks on the roads. This hardcore enforcement period will last through Sept. 3.
Consider yourself warned.
