Why can't people stop killing each other?
San Francisco police caught the two men who they say shot and killed 25-year-old Gary Smith on Friday night.

On Saturday, Union City police arrested Anthony Pratt, 27, of Union City, and Trumillion Ballard, 24, of San Francisco on suspicion of murder. Both were booked into San Francisco County Jail.

Sgt. Michael Andraychak wouldn't say what led police to the two suspects, but confirmed they were charged with murder after SFPD homicide investigators interviewed the pair.

On Friday, police were called to the unit block of Sixth Street at about 11 p.m., where they found Smith, an Oakland resident, shot to death. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, police said.

The shooting death was the city's 40th homicide this year. On July 2, Jordan Jordan, a San Francisco resident, was standing outside the front of a residence near the Sunnydale Housing Projects when he was shot to death.
