Supervisor Candidate Pleads Guilty to Threatening District Attorney on Facebook

Hey Benjamin, he's laughing at you!

It's fair to assume that pleading guilty to a crime pretty much makes you unelectable in San Francisco. Just ask Ross Mirkarimi.

But Benjamin Castaneda, the 24-year-old wannabe District 9 supervisor, seems to think threatening the District Attorney is somehow going to win him votes in the upcoming Board of Supervisors race.

Well, actually, it might.

As reported in the press, Castaneda pleaded guilty to two felony counts of attempting to deter an executive officer from performing a lawful duty, and pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of making criminal threats. He will return to court on Aug. 7, where he's expected to get three years' probation.

According to the DA's Office, Castaneda threatened District Attorney George Gascón in a Facebook post because prosecutors were going after him and his brother for allegedly violating restraining orders filed by other family members.

The Facebook message went something like this: "Back off of the cases or something bad is going to happen."

Of course, it's not the first time the aspiring pol has advocated violence via social media. According to previous press reports, earlier this year, he left this statement on Facebook in reference to his bid for county supervisor against Supervisor David Campos: "I'll kill for my family that's including the police. I know what's mine period!"

Sounds like decent lyrics to a rap song. 

Incidentally, a cursory scan of Castaneda's Facebook page reveals that he "Likes" Eminem, Mayor Jean Quan, and sleeping.
