Pier 29 Fire: Officials Identify Two Possible Causes

Fire Department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said before the fire broke out, workers "were trying to use an electrical source in that area [where the fire ignited] and were having difficulty with that, and so they instead decided to use a generator."
The fire broke out before 2 p.m., stopping traffic along the Embarcadero and creating a fiery show for passersby. Firefighters worked for nearly two hours to control the blaze, which ripped through the roof of the vacant building.
Nobody was injured, and authorities say this fire will not slow plans for the much-anticipated America's Cup, which is relying on Pier 29 as a venue for spectators.
The four-alarm fire caused more than $2 million in damages.
