Stephen Martin's Friends Start Social Media Campaign to Help Find His Killers
Martin's friends are getting the word out about the Justice for Stephen Martin Facebook page, asking B2B runners to help them identify and locate the suspects, who were wearing 49ers jerseys when Martin was sucker-punched at Golden Gate Park.
The FB page explains that the SFPD is very interested in any pictures or videos which might have information regarding the assault. Per the Facebook page:
We are on a mission to comb through social media and find any photos & videos of the Treasure Trolls (Bay 2 Breakers costume) in Golden Gate Park from that day, Sunday, 5/20. If you are unsure of whether or not it is GG Park, watch the video anyway, save the photo anyway. We need to get as much footage of the Treasure Trolls as possible and we may be able to help nab the perpetrator! E-mail anything you find to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please download the video or photo, the link alone will not suffice."Steve was not wearing his troll wig when it happened, but 2 others were standing right in front of him, one with bright red and one with bright pink troll hair," the FB page reads.
Here's some details on the "bad guys crew":
- There was a guy wearing a Ronnie Lott jersey (white jersey with red numbers). He had a tattoo on his neck
- There was also another guy in a No. 21 Frank Gore jersey (white with red numbers/letters)
- There was a girl wearing a white S.F. Giants shirt and a black-and--orange tutu
Martin was hanging near the Sharon Meadows art studio with friends after the Bay to Breakers race on May 20 when he began arguing with another group of men in 49ers jerseys. As they argued, reportedly over a cellphone, one of the men punched Martin in the head, knocking him to the ground. Martin was in a coma until June 9 when his family took him off life support.
Police released the few photos they have of the possible suspects, but no arrests have been made. The suspects were only described as Hispanic men in their 20s. However, police say there were plenty of witnesses who saw the argument unfold, and are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the cops at 575-4444, or Text-a-Tip to TIP411.
