Get Your Sugar Buzz on, It's National Donut Day
| It's like Christmas, Hanukkah, and his birthday all wrapped into one |
But consider today a holiday from all that health-nut PR-shaming and go get yourself a big, fat sugary donut -- or 12.
Today is National Donut Day and what kind of American would you be if you didn't observe this traditional holiday? An unpatriotic one.
So get off your rumps and get to the nearest Krispy Kreme near you where they will be giving away free donuts all day long. You can find the full list of participating donut shops here.
But before you leave, you should probably get a better idea as to why Americans are recognizing this holy day. National Donut Day started in Chicago in 1938 as a way to raise money for the Salvation Army and honor the the Salvation Army "Lassies" of World War I, who served doughnuts to soldiers.
Present day, it might just be a really good excuse to eat something fatty. In any event, get yourself a donut, some coffee, and enjoy!
