British Woman Hopes Her Fugly Pup Will Win Bay Area's Ugly Dog Contest

Pretty ... pretty ugly
As far as we're concerned, all dogs are adorable.

But then there's Mugly, a Chinese crested whose uninviting appearance definitely caught our eye. According to ABC, he arrived with his owner, Bev Nicholson, in the Bay Area on Monday, hoping to outshine all the other unattractive canines at the World's Ugliest Dog Contest, part of the annual Sonoma-Marin County Fair in Petaluma.

Despite not being easy on the eyes, Mugly has a lot of confidence, and for good reason: The 8-year-old pup has already been named Britain's ugliest pooch.

In fact, Mugly's uncomely appearance has garnered him enough popularity that a film crew followed him all the way to the U.S. this week to complete their documentary on the celebrity pup.

The word at Crissy Field is that Mugly has some stiff competition -- and competitive he is. Mugly's got his own website and Twitter account, with nearly 1,000 followers (he's even in the Urban Dictionary: "Mugly: a dog with an ugly mug").

So what if Mugly doesn't win?

"Then I'm probably going be flattered that people don't think my dog is the ugliest dog in the world," Nicholson told ABC.

The contest is this Friday, which gives Mugly plenty of time to get his much-needed beauty sleep.
