Another Civil Servant Accused of Domestic Violence

According to press reports, 32-year-old Yoshiaki Nagaya, a San Bruno resident, appeared in court yesterday to answer to charges of felony domestic violence against his wife, who is not being identified.
San Mateo prosecutors say Nagaya began beating his wife shortly after they married 18 months ago. The attacks continued over a 14-month period, until she finally went to police. He was arrested on April 1, but has continued working as the vice consul in downtown San Francisco -- for now.
Prosecutors described to reporters the level of violence inflicted on his "much smaller" wife.
"It ran from bruises, all the way to a puncture wound from a
screwdriver in her hand, to a tooth being knocked out," said San Mateo
County District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe told reporters.
Nagaya pleaded not guilty to all 17 felony counts of domestic violence, and is free on bail after posting $350,000 in cash. He is due back in court June 14.
And no, he does not have diplomatic immunity when it comes to beating his wife, officials said.
