Sutchi Hui, Pedestrian Killed by Cyclist, Died From Head Trauma, Coroner Says

Just like cyclists don't like speeding cars, pedestrians don't speeding bikes

The San Francisco Medical Examiner declared today that 71-yer-old Sutchi Hui died from blunt force trauma to his head after being hit by a cyclist speeding through the Castro District last month.

Hui was walking across the street at Market and Castro when Chris Bucchere sped through the intersection on his bike, hitting Hui. Initially, Hui was taken to the hospital and listed in stable condition, but his condition worsened, and four days later he died.

The Medical Examiner's Office told media outlets today that Hui had developed pneumonia while at the hospital, and experienced breathing problems in the final days before he died.

The District Attorney's Office has said they believe there's plenty of evidence to file felony vehicular manslaughter charges against 35-year-old Bucchere. However, they are waiting for police to formally present their case to the DA.

Witnesses reported seeing Bucchere blow through several red light prior to the accident. But perhaps the most damning evidence police say they have is video surveillance of Bucchere speeding through the intersection, making no attempt to stop before hitting Hui.

Bucchere won little sympathy from the community after someone claiming to be him on a cycling forum wrote about the events shortly after the accident. Aside from giving gory details of the crash, the person stated the lesson learned from this is simple: Cyclists should always wear their helmets.
