Save California, "Pro-Family" Group, Demands Kids Skip School on Harvey Milk Day

I was there on that day in 1978 and I remember Harvey's speech.  The odd thing is that at the time I had never felt particularly persecuted or discriminated against because I was gay and I had no problem letting everyone know that I was.  The closer we become to being truly equal citizens under the Law the more strident our opponents are going to become.  They are on the wrong side of History now and they recognize that they are losing  the fight.  Expect the attacks and the organizations arrayed against us to employ. larger and more extreme measures.  The Era of Religious Beliefs masquerading as Public Policy is coming to an end in this country but don't expect it to go quietly.  As Harvey said:  "If we learn from History eventually we will win"  But we haven't won yet, there is much work to do and if Romney should win in November and the Republican's win control of the Senate we will be taking some steps backward.  So get out there and fight, register, and vote.  To end on a bright note; even the most extreme conservative members of the Supreme Court will have to decide how they want to be viewed by History.  Do they want to go down as the last Court to deny the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution to LGBT's; like those who upheld the Dread Scott Decision in the 1800's.  These are bright people who can see what direction the flow of History is headed on this issue.  "Eventually we will win".

 I   thank   God that my children are no longer of school age....    I couldnt tolerate gay teaching as being an acceptable  normal  lifesyle choice!    What people do is of course thier life to live  as they choose but.........For Gods sake!!! Leave it out of the schools..!!!!!      There are  many parents that have believe in  the teaching of the bible and thier  children should not be subjected to this crap!! 

where has this world's mind gone? can't you see that homosexuality is not natural? i'm not homophobic! what productive comes out of homosexual actions? if it was'nt for heterosexuals none of us, including homosexuals, would be here.

Following this example, should white-supremests refuse to allow their kids to skip school; during 'black history month?

They are making Harvey Milk Day a holiday for the children.. what better to remember him by then a holiday.

Remind me again what Harvey's legislative accomplishments were.  Not " The first OPENLY GAY....", actual legislation that he put through for something beside his own gender preference agenda.

I think keeping your children out of school on MLK Day is disgusting.  Pro-family my ass.  Whose family are they referring to?  

  They mention that "science" hasn't proven any basis for homosexuality, bisexuality or transsexuality ...whatever that means. Since when do people like this accept scientific proclamations? If they are to believe this fanciful decree are they also prepared to accept the world wasn't created a few thousand years ago?

These people aren't pro-family. They're anti-gay. Period.

I'm pretty sure making the kids miss a day of school is not helping the kids. It may even be sending a message that if you don't like something, just go play instead of working to change it. I imagine the parents will lecture them all day with their hate dogma. Oh that is going to help society so well. 

This video digs out that tired old claim that "gays have the highest rates of sexually transmitted disease."  Of course what they really mean is "gay MEN have the highest rates of sexually transmitted disease" (which isn't really even true) but these people are so sexist that they always forget about women.  Lesbians actually have the lowest rates of sexually transmitted disease, so using their logic, they should be promoting "the lesbian lifestyle."

Can't wait for all of these people to die.  The world would be a much better place without hatemongers like them.  Christians?  No thanks.  Save the children from them. 

Lighten up LGBTer's - this is a free (!) country - and if kids rebel, they'll lose long-term.  Stop being so freaked out about each "slam" against your beliefs, it bares your ongoing insecurity all too clearly!

Yeah, I don't want my kids learning about a small business owner who successfully engaged in local politics either. Now *those* are some bad ideas to spread around. Stay afraid and helpless, kids!

Can we stop promulgating the myth that homophobic groups are "Pro Family?"  If a racist group denounced MLK day the headline wouldn't repeat what ever euphemism they might use to describe themselves.  The headline would say, "Racist Group" not "Anglo American Pride Group."  Anti-gay groups are bigots.  Plain and simple. When parents embrace and support their gay children, that's pro-family.  What's pro-family about homophobes rejecting their gay children?

What a surprise that the pro-ignorance crowd would ask children to ditch school.

I really wish that the headline for this article wouldn't glorify this group by calling them "Pro-Family" when nothing could be further from the truth.
