The Examiner reports this morning that 23-year-old Marcus Herrera, a Santa Ana resident, was arrested while riding a Muni bus Sunday morning. He was booked into the San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of murder, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon, said Sgt. Michael Andraychak.
Police were called to the park at about 7:30 p.m. on Friday where they found 55-year-old Musial unconscious. Witnesses say Musial had been sitting on a bench near the Sharon Art studio struggling to breath and calling for help. He lost consciousness as paramedics were en route.
Musial's brother, Stewart, told the Ex that his brother was hit in the back of the head with a skateboard, and his wallet had been stolen. A preliminary autopsy shows that Musial died from blunt-force trauma to the head.
After his brother died, Stewart and some friends searched the park around the art studio, looking for any possible suspects. This search led to Herrera's arrest, police said.
"Investigators believe there were other people at the scene, and we're asking anyone with information to come forward," Andraychak said.
