On Sunday, around 4:56 p.m., a 31-year-old man was sucker-punched in the head as he was chilling in the park with friends. SFPD Sgt. Michael Andraychak says the victim, who was dressed with his friends as a troll doll for the Bay to Breakers costume race earlier that day, was "enjoying a day in the park" when an argument broke out with another group of 12 costumed people next to them.
In that group, there were a few females were wearing purple, and one wearing an orange tutu, while the men had on red-and-white 49ers jerseys, police said. As the two groups began arguing, one of the men in a 49ers jersey ran up to the victim and hit him in the side of the head.
The victim -- who has not been identified -- fell to the ground and has not regained consciousness, police said.
The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police are urging anyone that may have witnessed the incident or taken pictures in
the area of Sharon Meadows near the Sharon Arts studio and tennis courts to contact the Police
Department. The anonymous tip line is 575-4444 or Text-a-Tip to TIP411, and include "SFPD" in
the subject line.
