Pit Bull Shot Dead in Hunters Point
|This isn't the actual dog|
According to CBS News, the cops were called to the 200 block of West Point Road at about 4:30 p.m. on Friday on reports of a pup bleeding in the street. When police arrived, they found a sad sight: a young pit bull dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.
The woman who reported the incident said she was inside her house when she heard gunshots. She later went outside and found the wounded dog lying in a pool of blood.
A San Francisco Animal Care and Control officer took the pit bull to an animal hospital where it later died from its injuries, Kat Brown, deputy director of the agency, told CBS.
A necropsy revealed the dog was a female.
Sadly, police have been unsuccessful in trying to find any witnesses to the shooting, and nobody has come forward to claim the dog as their own. But prior to the shooting, the dog had been frequently seen running loose around the neighborhood, authorities said.
