Officer Albie Esparza couldn't confirm whether the suspects or the victim had participated in the annual footrace; however, he said the attack happened just two hours after the race officially ended and when parts of the park were still closed.
At about 4:55 p.m., the victim got into a verbal argument with another man on the unit block of Kezar Drive near Sharon Meadows. As the two were fighting, a second man jumped in and hit the victim in the head, knocking him to the ground, Esparza said.
The victim was unconscious when paramedics arrived. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with a life-threatening head injury.
The two suspects, who were only described as Hispanic men in their 20s, ran off and have not been found, Esparza said. However, there were plenty of witnesses who saw the argument unfold, and police are anyone with information about the incident to call police at 575-4444, or text-a-tip to TIP411.
