Local stoners will be disappointed to hear the news that a Memorial Day fire led police to an illegal pot grow operation inside a three-bedroom home in Oakland.

According to news reports, firefighters were called to the unidentified home at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday where they found the attic in flames. And inside the attic, they came across some 200 illegal marijuana plants up in smoke.

KTVU tried to get footage of the pot operation, but firefighters booted camera crews out of the house, saying it would ruin their criminal investigation.

What we can tell you is that each room in the house had different stages of the plants with lighting set up.

Neighbors said they saw people running from the house when the fire started, but fire officials have not yet located the people who were renting the house. KTVU talked to neighbors who said they had no idea there was an illegal operation happening right next door.

"I never got a whiff," said neighbor Jose Pineda. "I know those houses are going on everywhere. I would never have guessed it.  I'm just shocked."
