According to Sgt. Michael Andraychak, officers were coming from another call at about 10:40 p.m. when they heard a woman scream. The cops saw her attempting to fight off a man on the intersection of Fremont and Mission streets.
The woman broke loose and the suspect -- 39-year-old Derryck A. King, pulled out a gun and officers fired at him, according to press reports.
Perhaps not wanting to become a victim himself, King immediately dropped his gun and surrendered to police. King, a Hayward resident, was not hit, but he was arrested and booked into San Francisco County Jail. He has been charged with robbery, criminal threats, and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
Police would not release his booking photo, pending witness identification issues.
