Passenger Chokes Cab Driver in Mission, Steals Taxi
| Not even Robert De Niro makes this job seem glamorous |
Sadly, one local cabbie learned just how ungrateful (drunk?) passengers can be when he picked up a rowdy trio at the corner of Valencia and 18th streets early Tuesday morning.
The trouble started at 1 a.m. after the 58-year-old cabbie picked up the three men. The passengers began arguing among themselves, until one started yelling at the cabbie. This passenger then grabbed the driver from the backseat and started choking him, according to police reports.
The cabbie pulled over and hopped out of the car, followed by all three passengers.
The passenger who had strangled the cab driver jumped in the driver's seat and sped off in the taxi. He made it only a block before he crashed into another car, and was detained by a citizen until police arrived.
Police arrested a 48-year-old white man. No word on whether he was drunk when this happened. The cab driver was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was treated for neck pain.
