Walk to Work Tomorrow and Win Prizes

It's a sad, sad day when we have to be bribed to get some exercise. But clearly money and prizes are what it's gong to take to get some of you to off your lazy rumps and walk to work tomorrow.

As part of National walk to Work Day, WalkSF is asking all San Franciscans to hike to their place of employment tomorrow and then tweet about it or post about their trek on Facebook. In exchange, the nonprofit group will enter those sauntering San Franciscans into a prize drawing where participants can win a bunch of cool stuff from Sports Basement and other outdoorsy retailers.

"We're looking forward to hearing what people notice when they walk," said Elizabeth Stampe, executive director of Walk San Francisco, the city's pedestrian advocacy group. "What are the best parts of your walk? What feels unsafe? What would encourage you to walk more?"

To play this game, here's what you do: First be sure to "like" Walk SF on Facebook and/or follow Walk SF on Twitter. This way Walk SF can direct-message you if you win.

Next step: Walk to work.

If you plan to share your walking experience via Twitter then do so using the hashtag #walk2workSF, or share the "I walked to work today!" image from Walk SF's Facebook page.

"San Francisco is one of the best cities in the country for commuting on foot. Plus, it's a good time to see how the city could improve conditions to make your walk even better," Stampe said.

So get your walking shoes on tomorrow, and start your new commute. Let's just hope nobody gets hit by a Muni bus on their walk into work.

And dodge the bikes on the sidewalk, the skateboarders, the breeders with the Sports Utility Strollers, the people with the giant Sports Utility Dogs, and if you're in my 'hood, all the tables, waiters, etc who block the sidewalk so bad if i have to walk on columbus I will walk in street!  We are overbuilt, just too many people and not enough open space.

I support this but I'm not about to walk the 11.3 miles from home to 5th/Mission -- nope

Oh come on all of you beautiful San Francisco folks, if this 65 years young-ster can do a 2-mile hike each way to and from work 5 days a week, then you know you can do it, too.  I call it 'Californian's Revenge' it's expensive to live in California and this is our best and least expensive exercise/meditation program in the state, for 99% of us whether you are young or old.

Perhaps you could tell Campos and his pals it would be better for The Children to walk instead of getting free rides on MUNI  .. can you imagine how awful it will be to ride the bus?  Have to issue the drivers flak vests  . ... .

For a little added fun, anyone walking should check out Moonclimb.com. We are counting our "extra" steps in an effort to reach the moon (in theory) by the end of this year. All you have to do is tweet your step count to @moonclimb. You don't need a pedometer! 2000 steps to 1 mile. Check it out!
