Police Chief Greg Suhr to Discuss Violent Murder of Ingleside Family

Police Chief Greg Suhr is planning a trip to the Ingleside district tomorrow afternoon, where he will meet with members of the community to talk about the brutal mass killing that took place along a quiet, residential street nearly three weeks ago.

The town hall meeting, to be held at City College, will give both residents and the media an opportunity to ask the chief and investigators more about the case, and what police are doing to ensure the public is safe.

"It's a very tragic event that took place, the homicides, and it unnerved a lot of people," said Sgt. Michael Andraychak. "This is an opportunity to meet with representatives of the community and to alleviate some of their concerns."
On March 23, 35-year-old Binh Thai Luc allegedly went to the home on 16 Howth Street and killed a family, possibly using a "machete-like knife." The crime scene was so bloody and violent that police had trouble making sense of what happened; initially they believed it was a murder-suicide and that the suspect was dead inside the home.

But two days later, police arrested Luc on suspicion of murder. He has pleaded not guilty to all five counts of homicide. The victims include Hua Shun Lei, 65; his wife, Wan Yi Xu, 62; their children Vincent Lei, 32, and Ying Xue Lei, 37; and Vincent Lei's girlfriend, Chia Huei Chu, 30.

Prosecutors have not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty.

The meeting starts at 5:15 p.m. and will be held in the Wellness Center Auditorium, Room 103.
