Morton, a San Francisco resident, was shot in the chest Friday evening, along with two other teens. Police say the other victims, ages 18 and 19, were shot in the shoulder and wrist and are expected to survive.
Police were called to the corner of Griffith and Palou just before 9 p.m., where they found the three teens shot with a handgun.
Morton was dead when police arrived, and the other two victims were taken to San Francisco General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Police have no leads or a description of the shooter.
Friday's shooting was the city's 20th homicide this year. Earlier this month, 21-year-old Lawrence Richardson was shot to death as he walked out of corner store on Eddy Street.
