Anonymous Hacks Chinese Government Websites

Anonymous, the global Internet hacking group, doesn't only dislike the American government, it has gone public with its disdain for the Chinese government as well. On Thursday, the group claimed it took down several government sites to protest China's austere Internet restrictions.

Anonymous China listed via Twitter the websites it says it hacked over the last several days, including government bureaus in several Chinese cities and Chengdu, a provincial capital in southwest China. As of last night, the government was still working to restore its websites, according to press reports.

Here's the message Anonymous left on one of the hacked Chinese sites -- cdcbd.gov.cn, a home page for Chengdu's business district:

Message to Chinese People:
Each of you suffers from the tyranny of that regime which knows nothing about you. We are with you. With you here and now. But also tomorrow and the coming days so promising for your freedom. We will never give up. Don't lose hope, the revolution begins in the heart. The silence of all other countries highlights the lack of democracy and justice in China. It's unbearable. We must all fight for your freedom.
The group also kindly offered instructions on how to get around China's crazy restrictions on its Internet. We look forward to seeing the communist people on Facebook.
