What happened to Sierra?
(Update, 11 a.m.): Police said they found Sierra LaMar's purse with her clothing "neatly folded" inside near the intersection of Laguna and Santa Teresa in Morgan Hill. The new evidence was discovered on Sunday at 1 p.m., police told NBC. The clothes do not appear to contain evidence of a crime, nor have police confirmed that the clothes were the same ones LaMar was wearing the morning she was last seen. Check back for updates.

(Original story, 8:29 a.m.): Santa Clara Authorities told reporters this morning that they they have found an item related to 15-year-old Sierra LaMar, who has been missing since last Friday when she left her home to catch the bus for school.

Police have not disclosed what this item is, but they told NBC that it's enough to bring the FBI and other law enforcers back to Morgan Hill this morning to do another search of the area around LaMar's home and the surrounding properties.

Authorities are still unsure as to whether LaMar, a sophomore at Sobrato High School, ran away from home or if she was abducted on the morning of March 16. Until today, the only clue they had was her cellphone, which was found on a sidewalk near her home. The phone looked as though it had been tossed from a car, but it was intact, police said.  Police say they will have more information about her disappearance within the next few hours, after they conduct a new search.

Check back for updates on this case.

Anyone with information about Sierra or her whereabouts is asked to contact Santa Clara County Communications at (408) 299-2311. During business hours, tipsters can call sheriff's investigators at (408) 808-4500 or the anonymous tip line at (408) 808-4431.

PS what happened to the Amber Alert BIG MISTAKE. the only way I knew she was missing is from a flyer 2 girls gave my son at blockbusters in Fremont. This child was taken, she is not a runaway. I felt very uncomfortable near the 152 Pacheco Pass and using it to commute. It is dense and unhabbital in most areas.

I pray for the safe return of Sierra, I have children and I would die if I was in this situation. I hope the info I gave can be useful. The 101 to 152 and 25 to Hollister and the back roads to and from the freeway have so many discreet areas and an offender would have no problem hidding. The roads are dark before and after sun down, the roads are easy access to and from Southern California, which give an offender an easy escape. Many of the commuters on these dark lighted back roads are not even residence. Most of the time the areas are so busy you could miss even the most obvious ditch, fields and orchards that are not gated. It's scary and if you had a break down these bi-ways off 101 would be the worst place to be.

I believe the police need to move the investigation toward San Benito County, Hollister, gilroy area. I lived in Los banos, Hollister and Morgan Hill. There are large areas of open fields off 152 Pacheco pass and off highway 25 into hollister the area is frequent by seasonal workers, truckers, and migrants, many undocumented. There are many off road areas that truckers and workers use to go to and from the 101. The back road off 152 leads straight to hollister with many orchards. San Benito Ed leads to and from 152 also lots of fields. There is a back road that takes you from hollister to salinas also lots of orchards, back houses, out houses. Commuters use a off 152 that will take you past gilroy on into Morgan hill and then back on the 101. I even suggest checking truckers that went through the check point on 101 the day she was missing and track their GPS systems to see if they were in the area Sierra was missing from, all trucks use them. Communting for many years I have seen a lot things like out of state truckers pit stopped in areas other then truck stops, they make obseen gestures and will sometimes tail you, seasonal workers are always asking for rides and posted in discreet areas.

what about the mom's boyfriend?  What is his alibi?  I'm always suspicious of live in boyfriends with no biological connection to the kids they live with.  And no offense, the mother has a history of not picking winners in the husband department....  She seems like a smart kid who only would have gone with someone she knew.

On her twitter account, which is not set on private, she tweets repeatedly about being on drugs during the month leading up to her disappearance. I didn't read any further back than that. On the night before her disappearance she tweeted that she'd rather die than go to school the next day. There are also a few subtle references and jokes made about sex for money, or at least that's what they seem to be. I wonder if her disappearance is related to being involved with some shady characters through drug use.

I read also that there were no other items in the juicy bag except those clothes ,sounds like either she was using the bag just to hold the clothes and she may have had another purse for her "stuff"or the items that were in that purse were taken out before tossing it. Where is her "stuff" purse? Why would you toss the bag and not the stuff inside or another smaller purse? Also let's talk about the "elephant" in the room...the live-in boyfriend "Rick Gardiner". i know the cops say he has an alibi..but so did Shaun Atkins in the Hailey Dunn case.

Have you all seen her twitter? You all would be shocked for feeling sympathyfor her, but she is still human and for the sake of her parents, I hope that they find her.

Shivec

I read her twitter going back about a month today and was also shocked yet Nancy Grace referred to her as being scrubbed in sunshine. I wonder if the police or news reporters have read her twitter going back further than the morning of her disappearance.  It seems to me that some important information is on there. She refers to doing drugs. She alludes to drinking and even subtly jokingly refers to sex for money.  She tweets about having negative feelings towards her mother (who seems to be a good mom). And on the night before her disappearance she tweeted that she'd rather die than go to school the next day.  I just want them to find her safe and sound and, like everyone else, am looking at anything and everything for clues to what happened.

Wow shocker a teenager talking about sex and drugs, come on people this girl is missing, this isn't a character assassination.Let's put you on trial and see what bad stuff we could dig up on you. You don't have to be a drug addict to be associated with "shady" people, newsflash shady people are every where, you could be "associating" with them and not even know it. Did you see how gorgeous she is, for all you know she could have been innocently waiting at the bus stop and some perv sees an opportunity to snatch a pretty girl. Shame on you moms to be talking bad about this young girl you should only have words of hope and compassion or no words at all.

Shivec
Shivec

I am not attempting to assassinate her character. She assassinated her own character when she posted such defamatory things on public websites. My intention is simply to point out that every piece of information available needs to be researched, including her posts on social media.  They tell a lot about a person,  like what was on their mind, who they had been associating with, what might have been going on in their life, etc. You're right. She could have been snatched by a perv. She also could have been taken by someone she knew. She could have owed a drug dealer some money. She could have hurt herself or run away. The best way to offer hope and compassion is to look at all the facts, flattering or not, so this girl can be found as soon as possible. I doubt anyone on here wants to harshly judge a missing kid; however, we all want the same thing and that is for her to be found, safe. That can't be done without being honest about who she was and what she was involved in. Although we all might come into contact with shady people, drug users come into contact with shady people more often than others. Just a fact. Now let's find out who those shady connections might have been so we can start tracking her. We all have different viewpoints, which is good, but it's good to know we are in agreement by being worried about this missing child together and wanting her to be found.

sodakandy

No offence to her friends and family, but I think she may had met up with someone.

Justicehill

Wow. Do you have teenage children? And if so are they perfect angels?? Her Twitter posts do not make it okay for her, more than likely, to have become a victim of a terrible crime.

sodakandy
sodakandy

Yes, that is true, but  what I was basically saying is by judging by her twitter post, her actions may had something to do with her disapperence.

Shivec
Shivec

I agree with you except her twitter posts do indicate that she might have been a drug user. If so, she could have had associations with shady people which might have put her at a higher risk of danger.

heartbroken Mom

I did read it but she is afterall a teen and these days they think nothing of drinking and drugs and sex and whatnot. She is probably the norm and not the exception these days. i have raised 2 girls and have some insider information. your post was pretty rough.

sodakandy
sodakandy

That's just my opinion. And btw not all teenagers do that stuff, considering the fact that I am one. Judging by her twitter, not only her saying that she does drugs is suprising, but her lack of integrity was just unacceptable, and the possiblity that her twitter post most likely has something to do with her case. Despite all of this, I really do feel bad for the family and I hope that they find her safe.

You are still the mom and they need guidance.  You have to put your foot down or get them counseling before it's too late.

Shivec

Wow. Your comment is a sad reflection on today's society. Thankfully statistics state otherwise. I have two teenage daughters and stalk them and their friends regularly. Very few of them drink and have sex and even fewer have done drugs.  When adults give up and adopt the attitude that you can't fight it so you might as well accept it, no wonder kids do anything and everything they want.  Those inappropriate behaviors are immoral and expose them to danger so we must, as their parents, do everything we can to bond with our kids, educate them, provide a good example for how we want them to be, and supervise them.

Shivec
Shivec

I haven't read her tumblr account but I agree the farm worker comments definitely sound like something that need to be checked. Hopefully the investigators are looking into everything posted on her sites. I think we agree that all the facts need to be pieced together to find out what happened to her, whether they are flattering or not, so we can get this girl back home safe and sound. I noticed your name and feel the same way. My heart aches for her poor mom. I hope she never sees her daughter's internet sites.

heartbroken Mom
heartbroken Mom

you all misunderstood my comment. I was just stating that a lot of teens do a lot of those things and it is more prevalent these days. I agree that any and all of her habits good or bad can certainly have put her in danger including people she hung out with. My own girls were actually the exception  but  they told some stories of how wild things got in the "teen" world. I am hopeful that they find something today. i agree her tumblr and twitter are very telling. The farm worker comments were interesting with him seeing that white long haired blond man hanging around .

Also the purse I think was a bag/sack type and judging from the items: t-shirt pants(not jeans) and underwear, sounds like they were maybe for PE class that day, girls don't like to wear their sweating gym clothes later. If they ask the school whether they have gym clothing or the kids bring their own then they may be able to know what those clothes were for.

I noticed that her bus comes between 7:10 and 7:15 am , and that her last text from her phone was sent at 7:11 am. Was she already at the bus stop then? That would mean someone snatched her in that 4 minutes before the bus came and wouldn't the bus driver or students in bus have seen ahead of them aways if the timing was that close?

bayareamom

I agree 100% - this seems SOOOO Frustrating! Morgan Hill has lots of fields....why has no one arranged a search team with volunteers...looking for anything??!!??  I am hoping they do have evidence that they are withholing from the public - I pray they find her safe!

bayareamom
bayareamom

I have a strong gut feeling that she had a cyber stalker. She was on Twitter A LOT....Based on her twitts and other social media pages, she associated with a 'fast' crowd. Not sure how much of her twitts were real vs....trying to fit in but nonetheless it apperas that she was involved with a lifestyle that many young teens are falling into these days.  I've also wondered about human trafficing....that too seems to come with the whole drug scene. Could she have been kidnapped by someone who had no intintion of killing her but using her??

Does anyone else feel like its possible the perp is now planting this stuff after the fact, maybe to lead people in the opposite direction of where she could be.  i'm normally not a conspiracy theorist or anything but the only reason i'm saying this is i'm reminded of the morgan harrington case where someone had planted her t-shirt in the opposite direction of where she was found several weeks after she went missing.

Grdnnom
Grdnnom

She brought clothes with her.  Sounds like she may have been planning to run away.  She recently moved - that is tough on a teen.  Either she did run away, or intended to and perhaps was abducted by either a cyber creep or a stranger, or maybe even someone she knew.

bayareamom
bayareamom

I still dont think she's a runaway.

I think the purse is the most revealing -- no runaway needs to dump their purse - it can't trace them. And she would have had no way of knowing in advance that media would have made such a big deal out of the description of the Juicy bag (in case we're inclined to think that she dumped the purse because it was easily recognizeable). She could have easily dumped it in a trashbin in some other town with very little chance of it ever being found. And if some abductor was the one who folded the clothes, then perhaps he did so with the intention of making it look like a runaway situation. Someone who's smart enough to dump the phone might also be smart enough to cover their tracks as well.

bayareamom
bayareamom

but..... I don't picture an abductor throwing an entire purse from a car at 7:15am or whatever. It seems like something that would be done later to get rid of evidence that linked that person to the victim. i wonder how long the purse had been sitting on the side of the road. How far was the purse found from the cell phone? I hope I'm wrong but the runaway scenario doesn't make sense to me.

colewin

i noticed there are bus stops (vta #68 northbound) at these same intersections her belongings were found. i checked the route schedules of these buses, which should have coincided with her abduction, did anyone question these bus drivers and the passengers?

colewin

i read some of her friends said they found undergarments in her bag. i wonder if this is a normal girl thing- she said on her twitter she was PMSing about 1.5 weeks ago, it could have been for a monthly visit. i've followed her twitter account and tumblr very closely since all of this happened

Jack Berns

it seems like you are doing more investigation than this cops are, I am looking to become a cop soon and I will tell you one thing I am not liking their protocol of how they are going about things in such a slow pace. Its been 6 days, assuming she is still alive, how the hell can she survive without food or water for 6 whole days, where would she be sleeping without being noticed. I hate to say this but this is for sure a child abduction case and this poor little girl is probably dead. Crossing fingers

colewin
colewin

its too slow. im hoping and praying that someone just has her locked in a basement somewhere, as horrible as that is.

if it is a ranch hand, a farmer, a worker, they should check all their records for that friday to see who didnt show up to work. not that this will always be an indicator, but they need to look.

colewin
colewin

i imagine they have found clues pointing towards her murder and they arent releasing it to the public yet. who knows. you're right, we will hear about it next week.

Jack Berns
Jack Berns

I agree they should have you working alongside and I know these cases happen everyday somewhere but as close as it is to the general area where I live and also this girl is really pretty so I'm sure it was tempting for someone to abduct her. So im guessing now if the police find new clues today, we will know by Saturday of next weekend??

colewin
colewin

jack, i just can't sleep over this case and am reading everything i possibly can and trying to help in whatever way i can. i have emailed numerous ideas to the police and have asked so many times how i can help. i have been tempted to drive down there and just basically be told what to do- i want to help in the search.

Jack Berns
Jack Berns

Nothing better than finding  a new clue about this strange case however why is everything working in such a slow motion manner. They found the purse with clothing on Sunday but released the information on Thursday? Also, if the clothes were neatly folded in her purse, why aren't they questioning the parents like:

Does your daughter always take clothes with her in her purse? Was there a special event that Friday after school that she needed to changeWere the clothes in her purse the same clothes she walked out of the house with?

colewin
colewin

EXACTLY! i am so frustrated about the same thing. do they not understand time is of the essence here? i mean, if she was able to escape but was hurt, she could have been lying in a ditch somewhere and they are dragging their feet.

Thalia Uriostegui
Thalia Uriostegui

could it be possible she met a boy online and was meeting with him? but could have been a cyber freak. could explain the extra clothes in her purse. bc. when someone, especially a girl who wants to run away. Would take the things that mean the most to them. specially clothes. I don't believe she ran away.

colewin
colewin

i dont think so. she was making plans with friends in 2 weeks in freemont, she had talked to her dad about coloring her hair the night before she went missing and frequently posted about it. she constantly talked on her twitter about not being serious with boys in highschool. i don't think this was an online romance gone sour. and i certainly dont think she would be without her phone or her friends to aid her.

The Santa County Sheriff's Office this morning disclosed they have found a bag, T-shirt and pants belonging Sierra LaMar, the 15-year-old Morgan Hill girl who disappeared while on her way to school Friday.Sgt. Jose Cardoza said a Juicy bag was found at 1 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Laguna Avenue. Inside the bag was a neatly folded pair of pants and a T-shirt.Cardoza said that information was not released until they confirmed the bag and clothing was Sierra's and investigators did follow-up work.

they sound it on sunday near the intersection of laguna and santa teresa, while her phone was found scheller and santa teresa. how did no one see a pink and black purse on the road? whats even more scary is they were heading north, however, my feelings are something took place not far from the purse. they need to focus on the creeks, the large areas surrounding. i can't understand why they havent had people combing these fields since friday? it could have been covered by that point.

Jake
Jake

So at this point, in your opinion do you think she is still alive or do you think we are just searching for a body?

colewin
colewin

also, im not sure why, but i have some weird feeling about them finding her belongings on the side of the road, i'm hoping it means they were kidnapping her and have her held somewhere, rather than murdering her, because in a weird way it kind of is leaving a trail for her, right? im wondering if the perp did this or if she did.

colewin
colewin

i dont know, jake. i know in abduction cases, from what i have read, typically if the perp is planning to murder his/her victim, they do it within the first few hours they have them. the amazing cases of the girls like midsi sanchez, jeannette tamayo, they all were held captive, but were able to get away using guts and quick thinking and luck. i would love for them to bring sierra back home alive, and big part of me is hoping beyond hope she is alive and someone has her locked away somewhere, but i'm also being realistic in my expectations of the case. i read something like .06% of child abduction cases end up like midsi's or jeannettes. i also read they are revamping their search efforts from looking for her as a runaway or an injured person and now looking for a weapon, or more clues.

colewin
colewin

why arent there more search teams combing those fields? also, i wonder if they have checked any of the near by gas stations. i think they need to question the bus driver and those who see other people out on these roads regularly. i feel like 1 clue in 6 days is ridiculous. they have tons of people willing to help search for this girl and they havent asked the public for anything. focusing on  her highschool friends is ridiculous. she may have seemed like a wild child on her twitter, but why wouldnt the police  also assume the worst in this case? someone knew her schedule, someone watched her regularly to know when she came out for the bus, that she would be on her phone and more than likely alone. on a FB page i read the post of a mother who said she had recently stopped taking her daughter to that bus stop with sierra, so whoever was watching saw that sierra was now alone out there. someone HAD to have seen something, a car or a person waiting there. i just cant imagine in such a small community on these little back roads that she could go missing if it wasnt someone who was familiar with her habits and the community. this is SO frustrating!!

there is a grass farm on palm ave, looks like an agricultural community, why arent those people being questioned and asked about alibis? what about the truckers on this route?

Bogy Registrar
Bogy Registrar

Palm and Daugherty, these are small roads. I've never seen a truck driving on any of those roads. Daugherty runs parallel to and only about 50feet away from Monterey Highway, but even that is a very narrow, very old highway and it has no shoulder or anywhere for a trucker to pull over. Could be a day laborer/agriculture worker, daily commuter, or simply a neighbor who has seen her walking by, but to me it doesnt seem likely to be a trucker.

colewin
colewin

they look small from what i can see. i want to go down and help search. i was wondering if it was a agriculture worker, daily commuter, or a nearby neighbor. in my mind, it can only be someone familiar with the area, that had a reason to be in that area at that time, that had a schedule that would be close to sierras, particularly in the morning, so they would know when and where she would be.

Jake
Jake

What shocks me is that no one "saw anything" and no one has come forward. At that time in the morning when kids are going to school people are on their way to work and out and about so it's ridiculous and unbelievable that no one saw anything that day.

colewin
colewin

i couldnt agree more. i mean, thats why i say question the bus driver, or the mom who usually took her daughter out to wait at the same stop as sierra. someone had to have seen something.
