Ross Mirkarimi Petitions Demand Embattled Sheriff Not Be Fired
| Tami must be REALLY progressive |
Mirkarimi supporter Tami Bryant doesn't seem to care that the sheriff has spent time in his own county jail; she thinks he's still the right person for the job, which is why she's created a new petition, attempting to fight his potential ousting from office. Already, 200 people have signed the petition in Mirkarimi's favor, saying the sheriff -- who was suspended from his post after he pleaded guilty to false imprisonment stemming from a domestic dispute with his wife -- is the "change agent" needed for the county jails.
Well, that makes sense -- who would know better about what changes the jails need than someone who's been incarcerated in one?
According to the petition, which is being delivered to Mayor Ed Lee:
Last November the people of San Francisco democratically elected Ross Mirkarimi as our new Sheriff. He has the public safety and legislative experience needed to run the Sheriff's office, and we want to urge our elected leaders to honor the will of the voters by not taking any action that will remove him as our Sheriff.A second petition has also been making rounds through the community, although it's not gaining much support. Only three people have signed the petition that's demanding Lee "stop the witchhunt" on Mirkarimi and his family.
As they say, when times get rough, you find out who your real friends are.
