Ross Mirkarimi Petitions Demand Embattled Sheriff Not Be Fired

Tami must be REALLY progressive
Not everyone wants to see Ross Mirkarimi go down in flames. Despite the fact that even Mirkarimi's closest allies have turned on the newly convicted sheriff, he does have a few friends left.

Mirkarimi supporter Tami Bryant doesn't seem to care that the sheriff has spent time in his own county jail; she thinks he's still the right person for the job, which is why she's created a new petition, attempting to fight his potential ousting from office. Already, 200 people have signed the petition in Mirkarimi's favor, saying the sheriff -- who was suspended from his post after he pleaded guilty to false imprisonment stemming from a domestic dispute with his wife -- is the "change agent" needed for the county jails.

Well, that makes sense -- who would know better about what changes the jails need than someone who's been incarcerated in one?

According to the petition, which is being delivered to Mayor Ed Lee:

Last November the people of San Francisco democratically elected Ross Mirkarimi as our new Sheriff. He has the public safety and legislative experience needed to run the Sheriff's office, and we want to urge our elected leaders to honor the will of the voters by not taking any action that will remove him as our Sheriff.
A second petition has also been making rounds through the community, although it's not gaining much support. Only three people have signed the petition that's demanding Lee "stop the witchhunt" on Mirkarimi and his family.

As they say, when times get rough, you find out who your real friends are.

This whole episode has been blown "out of proportion".      Ross deserves to stay in office.  I voted for him for obvious reasons.

If the only standard bearer for progressives is Ross, then the progressive movement really is dead. The progressive lefty members of the Board did not support Ross for Board President, and instead chose a legislator with no experience as president because they didn't like him because of his attitude, and his abusive behavior to staff etc. If he's counting on them to bail him out he may want to think again.

If this keeps up, Ross may do what others could not - completely demolish the leftists in SF politics. Hmm.

He admitted that he was guilty of false imprisonment and has agreed to attend Domestic Violence classes. There should be no argument that he is unfit to hold a Sheriff's position. Anyone remotely thinking that he is fit to keep his job is in deep denial.NO ONE is above the law Even if he agrees with your politics. All the conspiracy theories are desperate attempts to mask the facts. Please stop blaming the victim and the brave witnesses who came forward. Accountability is the first step Ross can do to move forward. No job is more important than you family. Clearly his priorities are not in order.

Didn't know Tami Bryant that you were, "in this fight to stop the victimization of innocent people"Stop the presses and subpoena Tami Bryant quickly, apparently she has vast evidence that an admitted criminal of false imprisonment is, in fact, "innocent"!Those judges, the DA, Ivory and her husband, the other witnesses, the Mayor, the police ...a motley Crüe that somehow hypnotized Ross to bruise Eliana and got him to plead GUILTY to False Imprisonment... Because...wait for it..of Politics...BTW, name calling or putting other posters down by feeling sorry for our loved ones is unbecoming of a professed servant of the people. Once again the proverbial progressive stance, "if you're not with us you're against us" long lives with Tami Bryant. It's been amusing but alas their is no point getting anything but cultist responses from someone that idolizes a criminal.

I am not sure what language you read and write, but I am advocating for victims! DUH! Have someone translate everything I said into whatever language you speak! I never, ever blamed witnesses! I am in this fight precisely to enhance public safety and end the victimization of innocent people! In fact you two are such angry souls heaven help the people in your lives!

Why are you so angry? Are ALL Progressives that support Ross so Arrogant and Bombastic? It is amusing that your only response starts with "Barf..."I guess all the pretend intellectual emotional domestic violence abuser apology you posted earlier was a hoax.Maybe try some yoga, meditation or hey even common sense. But I guess coming from Lou Gordon and Tami Bryant ONLY BLAMING Victims and Witnesses of a Domestic Violence Is a Progressive Value when the criminal is their Progressive Friend.

I know both of them and they are a very nice couple. With that said I don't knowone couple that doesn't quarrel over the smallest things from time to timeotherwise the relationship would be boring. No two people think the same overanything.

I personally believe this trial was about political issues rather than about DV. I like the majority of human beings do not agree with violence of any kind against another person. In this case they seem to be on the same page that this did not meet the standard forthis going to trial. I personally think the neighbor was seeking fame and fortune and she took complete advantage of a slight communication issue and made headlines for her company. I have NEVER seen a DV case get so much attention.

The court of public opinion convicted Sheriff Mirkarimi before it went to trial. I believe the courts made many reversible errors. I was at a few of the early court proceedings and I heard the first judge say I get my information from the news like everyone else. It went downhill from there on. I have never seen the DA’s office at Family court but in this case they were there trying to influence the outcome.

Ross Mirkarimi is doing a great job as Sheriff of SF. SFPD and the DA leaked so much information the case should be thrown out by a higher court. SF politics is very ruthless in my personal opinion!! Oh and don't forget that 2 DA's invested in the whistle blowers company!! I believe once we get the total dollar amount spent to prosecute this case we the taxpayers should make sure not to vote for any of the politicians who launched this overzealous  court action. "Shameful" is the best word to describe the SF political machine who is behind this.

Lastly why didn't they put this much effort into the illegal hotel raids by SFPD? why did they throw out hundreds of drug cases and not seek proper prosecution of those cases?, These incidents were under Gascon's watch as Police Chief?? this whole thing SMELLS.......

There you go again blaming the witnesses, blaming the victim, blaming the fact that "couples quarrel", blaming politics, blaming the DA, blaming the fact that other crimes are not being investigated equally,,,etc...etc.,.

When will you blame the criminal?!Accountability for everyone, except Progressives?!Don't drag your politics in this please!!

You are a child pretending to care for progressive values. You remind me of a thug telling someone, "ya wanna rumble?!"Posting my comment is my prerogative NOT a progressive political agenda.Your response screams the saying, " If you're not with us your against us!"If you are against the name " Love Does Not Hurt" It only shows your true colors that Domestic Violence is A-Okay with you Lou Gordon AS LONG AS the Abuser is a Progressive Politico.Thank you for clearing things up for me for some reason I thought Progressives were all about moving forward, but I guess thuggery does not discriminate.Oh yeah and LOVE DOES NOT HURT!

Well said Lou! Don't forget the District Attorney that was arrested for domestic violence... What was his name again? Oh, that's right, that is being kept private and confidential! The shameless way the media leaked the so-call "evidence" to taint the jury pool is reprehensible! And as Judge Breall admitted to getting her information from the media, and forming her biased opinion from that, Judge Wong is no better. Even the family court judge is not giving Ross a fair shake!

It would be funny if Eric Mar signed the petition.

If that's what you think! I think I want a Sheriff who knows about rehabilitation and reentry so that my kids and I are safe!

LoveDoesNotHurt
LoveDoesNotHurt

Goodness sake Tami, Ross is not the only person interested in rehabilitation and reentry! It seems absurd that you think Ross is a savior for the progressive agenda in regards to the Sheriff's Department. Also, you seem to think that Ross is not an abuser of women, apparently you have the facts.Ross is guilty of false imprisonment, fact.Ross plead guilty to false imprisonment, fact.Ross has agreed, in part of his guilty plea, to attend Domestic Violence classes, fact.Ross is not fit to be Sheriff, fact. You are supporting a convicted criminal to lead a law enforcement agency, nonsense.Keep your own political agenda out of the Sheriff's Department Tami and stop being hypocritical. And please oh please stop blaming victims and witnesses and blame the criminal!

You're right on that...I stand corrected.. It's a form of 'fatigue' I suppose. There's nothing wrong with a mod-erate approach to governance...... Look to Vancouver , B.C. and much of Canada for example. Even their Con-servative Party is progressive , in  the true sense..Weneed more reasoned voices , here...Adults..

njudah

Plenty of liberals and the like want Ross out too. It's not a lefty/rightie thing. It's a "support our guy regardless of what he does" vs. "let's have the adults run city Hall for a change" thing.

I do know that violent career criminals  'like' [favor] people likeR. Mirkarimi ; for the most obvious self serving reasons...butthis gal ; not sure..

I am a mother of three, two who are college graduates, I work full time, and I myself, have yet to be arrested. All three of my children know multiple victims of homicides, and this is not acceptable. I myself was mugged in 1993, so no one is more committed to ending violent crime than I am, and this is precisely why I support Sheriff Mirkarimi! He was innovative and prolific as our Supervisor! He responded to his constituents and our concerns! The homicide rate plummeted under his watch. So to answer your question, I support him because of his proven public safety track record. As for his lovers' quarrel with his wife, this was a situation that warranted therapeutic intervention, and never, ever rose to the level of a crime! There is a difference! It is hideous to see the waste of tax dollars on this non-crime, while real crimes languish ignored by Gascon!

"Arf!" Lemming

He and many like him in SF's city/county gov't , is pro-criminal ; anti everyone else.Veteran's preference or 'close to it' , in jobs & housing , for convicted felons ?! Serveyour country in uniform  honorably or shoot a 7-11 clerk in the face.. It has the samevalue to folks like this. It's the way they're wired and it can't be helped.

Tami

Arf- I am all for doing above and beyond for our service men and women! I believe they deserve all the benefits and preferences for their incredible sacrifice. I have to work with veterans, as I serve the public, and they are part of the public I work with, and I always believe that they deserve more than what they get, but your view is so "simplistic," and cynical. No one wants to reward someone for committing a crime, and causing victims pain, I've been mugged, it is about the reality- most people commit crimes to survive, give them all they need to become reliable employees, productive citizens, and taxpayers, and no more victims, then isn't it a win-win for all?
