James Hooker, Modesto Teacher, Leaves Wife and Kids, Moves in with Student
| Well, at least Jordan Powers thinks so |
Some might say this is yet one more example of the education system failing us.
A 41-year-old Modesto teacher has reportedly dumped his wife and kids for one of his former students at Enochs High School. According to the Modesto Bee, James Hooker (could this get any worse?) quit his job at Enochs the same week he went public with his love for 18-year-old Jordan Powers, a senior who had been a student in his business class. The couple has since moved in together, angering Powers' mother -- and understandably so.
The high school sweethearts swear their not-so-young love only blossomed after Powers, who has since dropped out of school, turned 18 in September, thus making their relationship perfectly legal, albeit somewhat disturbing.
Naturally, everyone has questions about their relationship -- especially police.
Hooker confirmed to media outlets that he indeed is being investigated by Modesto police after Powers' mother found a string of text messages that were exchanged between the two lovers when Powers was still a minor.
Hooker says both mom and police can dig up whatever they want, but they won't find anything that proves he had a physical relationship with Powers.
"I think the stigma of the teacher-student relationship just makes it messy, makes it really hard for people to get through to the point that we really do like each other," he told ABC News. "We really do want to have a future together."
Here's what mom has to say about that:
