Dan Richards, Fish and Game Chief, Might Get Canned After Shooting Cougar
| Move to Idaho. Please. |
But actually, it is their business.
As the Chron reports this morning, Democrats are plotting to oust Richards from his post as president of the California Fish and Game Commission after he recently traveled to Idaho to gun down a mountain lion for dinner. The happy hunter has defended his hobby, saying he has every right to kill cats in Idaho, where the sport is perfectly legal.
Sure, he's no criminal, but lawmakers here don't want their fish and game guru to be killing mountain lions, which is illegal in California, any more than they would like their drug czar to travel to Amsterdam and light up a joint.
So now the question all you angry animal activists are wondering: What will it take to get rid of Richards, a Republican who was appointed to the commission by former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger? As the Chron explains, a majority of lawmakers in both houses would have to vote in support of his removal, and considering both Democrats and enough Republicans have called for his resignation, sealing that deal won't be too difficult.
But Richards, proving that he's not just a hunter, but a fighter, is not giving up.
"Do you really think a California commissioner is actually obligated to follow California laws across these United States? Really?" Richards wrote to the Legislature.
Yes, Richards, we do.
