I see people commenting that Richards accepted a free gift and he should be fired.  Was it a "free gift" when Lt. Governor Newsom was banging his campaign manager's wife during his re-election campaign in San Francisco?  I guess that action had no "moral" or "ethic" value to it, yet he acts like Jesus Christ going after Richards.

Hunting is a recognized tradition and legal sport. It may not be mine, but hunting and culling is a necessary balance. For a hunter to even see a mountain lion indicates something is out of balance. California and the wild pig population is a perfect example of maybe too much regulation in California. So Gavin, you should resign for wasting the taxpayer time with non-sense.

Already under fire for shooting a mountain lion, the president of California's Fish and Game Commission has been hit with another setback: a formal ethics complaint alleging he violated state law. The complaint, filed with the California Fair Political Practices Commission, accuses Upland resident and big game hunter Dan Richards of accepting a gift valued at $6,800 from the Flying B Ranch in northern Idaho when the ranch allowed him to shoot a mountain lion on its property in January without paying the full fee charged to other guests who go on guided lion hunts. Richards is a co-managing partner of Rancho Cucamonga-based Colonies Partners LP. The firm is the subject of an ongoing public corruption investigation in which four have been indicted. Richards has not been charged with any crimes.

The guys didn't do anything wrong!  Maybe he's a little tone deaf, but do we dump everyone who does something legal that's illegal in CA?  Get over it!

Danny Boy tracked and stalked this starving desperate creature and shot him at point blank range. I agree 100% with Dan Richards.  It is not the business of any legislature to judge Richards on what he is doing in another state if he is engaged in legal activity.  If the Assembly and the Senate members don't have anything better to do than criticize Mr. Richards for his hunting then they should get the hell out of Sacramento. This whole story is just retarted.  Yes hunting mountian lions in California is outlawed.  Hunting Mountian lions in Idaho apparently isn't.  I'm an advid hunter.  I'm not a tropy hunter.  I think what he does leaglly is his buisness.  Now being the man in the position that he is in, as proud of the moment it was for him, maybe excersising a little common sense and not publically showing what he did.  Call it being sensitive to the public eye, maybe a little perfessional curtosey.  But by the way in case anyone is curious, step off an improved road in California hell even at the base of any mountian range..  You will find those unmistakable cat tracts quickly.  Here's another fun fact:  a grown mountian lion will kill 4 deer in a one week period, just for the sport, not becuase they are hungry?

"yes, Richards, we do"? that is absurd --- Do you have a problem with Jerry Brown opposing the death penalty (which is CA law via the initiative process)? What about Gay state employees who have gone out of state or country to get married --- shall we track them down and fire them over their disrespect for CA laws? We have bad laws all the time. People question them, we have some form of discourse and try to improve. Not managing this apex predator is a mistake that time will prove no matter what happens here.
