SF Examiner Goes Soft on Us

They'll be endorsing universal health care before you know it!
For all the time we have spent bagging on the San Francisco Examiner, it's only right that we give credit where credit is due.

Alas, in between coming up with synonyms for "creep" and "thug," the free tabloid has managed to insert some more liberal prose into their copy, as promised by the new owners. We've already seen this shift in the opinion pages, but today's front cover might be the first news story we've seen that displays the 180 the newspaper has done, from spewing nutty right-wing screeds to calling out Republicans for being nutty.

Here's today's headline: "GOP's plan to strip funding for bike, pedestrian, transit projects blasted as a return to 'horse-and-buggy' era." That's quite a sharp turn from this twisted editorial penned by the former Ex owners when they endorsed Sen. John McCain and his looney running mate Sarah Palin for president in 2008.

Ever the maverick, McCain selected Palin because her record mirrors his own in courageously standing up to corrupt special interests regardless of party and cutting government waste. She has the instincts, temperament and backbone to help restore the Republican Party to its conservative principles and the country as a whole to those foundational ideals of individual freedom, equal justice and government that truly is of law, not of men.
