San Franciscans Feel Good, But Why?

After witnessing a woman fight with a meter maid over a parking ticket, the last thing I was expecting to read this morning was that San Franciscans are feeling good about this city. But apparently it's true. In fact, according to the S.F. Chamber of Commerce, they're feeling downright optimistic.

A Chamber-induced poll says that S.F. denizens' positive feelings about our fair city has doubled since last year. This is when we ask ... is it because Gavin Newsom moved to Marin, or perhaps they are just happy they don't live in Oakland?

The Chamber, and Newsom himself, point to Silicon Valley tech firms, saying the relocation of those companies to San Francisco over the last year have put our economy on the right track.

And nothing makes people happier than having more money, right?

Well here's what Newsom has observed: "You can travel the state, and there's not anybody doing better than this city," Newsom told the Chron. "Even Los Angeles. It's alive, but this kind of energy is not there."

That's true. San Francisco is undeniably better than Los Angeles in every way. But perhaps that fresh spring in our step has less to do with the slow-but sure economy and more to do with the fact that San Franciscans are getting laid more!

People without shame or guilt seldom have reason to feel down. But what would the rest of us Americans know? Most of us still believe in Hell and have families to support and those two things can really weigh on a person, not that the city with the highest rate of singles and Buddhists in the country would know anything about that.

Gavin Newsom travels in an exclusive elite crowd who apparently seldom look pass their mirrors. Although San Francisco is located in one of the most beautiful places on earth, in reality as opposed to pretend or imaginary, it is very ragged and dirty. We need to take off the rose colored glasses, and really see our City with its dirty sidewalks and all those sad displaced people living on these dirty streets. LA is far from perfect, but it has the Metro Rail, which is clean and inexpensive and the amazing Free Getty museums.
